History
Fairen is a noble House of little political standing or power that lies to the south on the Megam mainland, then and currently ruled by Lord Tomas. His eldest children were twins, borne by his wife, the Lady Lynn. Lord Tomas, ever ambitious, had plans for these children. Cameryn, designated heir destined to learn the ways of rule, who would use his wits and charisma to make Fairen known by those in power. Hilary, a daughter who would grow up to be a beauty, and marry a powerful lord and elevate Fairen to more acclaim. Lord Tomas' and Lady Lynn's next child, who would also turn out to be their last, was Alastair, and there was nothing planned for him. The position of second son, an heir to turn to in the very small possibility that glorious Cameryn would pass on to the Dragons' embrace before his time, a backup, was a position young Alastair soon grew to resent all his life.
Childhood for Alastair is even now something his adult self would pay bags upon bags of gold to forget. He spent it embarrassing himself trying to gain his father's attention, hating his father for his lack of attention, even more embarrassingly trying to gain his siblings' attention before realising that they were far too close, too connected to ever make room for him, and seeing absolutely no point in his studies in governance and politics and whatever else, because he was mere backup to his great, invincible brother, so what chance was there of him actually applying lessons learnt from this magnificent waste of time?
Alastair would also pay bags upon bags of gold to never forget Lady Lynn, his mother, the only person who gave him the time of day, who cared about him and supported him, who told him he was worth something, and young Alastair dearly wanted to be told he was worthy. If Cameryn and Hilary shared connection, then, Alastair and Lynn were kindred spirits of a kind, two people who found solace in the other's loneliness. But then, when he was nine, Lynn left to be judged by the Dragons, leaving Alastair devastated, alone, and never since finding a person who was what his mother was to him. His father, too busy furthering the prospects of his two eldest, more promising children, never noticed the dispirited and dissatisfied boy his other, spare son had become for the next few years.
This changed demeanor disappaited at Lord Tomas' quick remarriage. How dare his father marry this woman, when his mother was not even long in the Dragons' embrace? It was not as if his father needed more children, as Alastair, seccond son, backup heir, who was never granted anything from his father but cold apathy, could certainly attest.
He was even more furious that his father had not a care for his anger at the disrespect of his mother's memory.
By the time his stepmother (the fake mother, the slut, the whore) gave birth to his stepsister Leanna, Alastair had gained little reputation of being a "problem child". He no longer cared for his father's respect or attention - or at least, he tried not to care - and devoted more time not to his useless, pointless studies, but to actions and escapades designed to embarrass Lord Tomas utterly. He did not pretend that his feelings towards his stepmother and stepsister were anything other than contempt and loathing, and by the time he turned fifteen, his newly earned reputation only grew.
And then Cameryn, charming, saintly, valiant, untouchable, noble Cameryn, gave up his inheritance to join the Holy Guard. And suddenly, Alastair mattered.
How selfless of Cameryn, gushed the family, how gracious, how noble. Such a display of piety would certainly place him in the Dragons' favour. Utter bullshit, according to Alastair. For at the same time, Hilary was soon to leave for Lucre to be wed to Lord Caroval of Emilia, and the twins were connected, and never could stand to be apart for long. Dear noble Cameryn was being anything but selfless, and now who was left to pick up the pieces of his self-interested decision? His backup.
After fifteen years, Lord Tomas finally needed Alastair (finally saw that he existed, more like). And so began the training and lessons that aimed to make his new heir suitable and prepared. By this time, however, Alastair had closed his heart to his father completely. Instead of being happy that his father was giving him the attention part of him still craved, Alastair reacted, in true fashion, with making himself so unbearable and antisocial that some of his tutors refused to teach him and skipping the Dragonsdamned lessons of the more resilient teachers. He soon spent more time out of his family estate than in it, where acted in a manner that would not be out of place in a Kanemorian brothel. His arguments with his father became stuff servants would whisper about with a mixture of incredulity, disgust, fear and awe whenever they got the chance. For the last nine years, Alastair has certainly placed Fairen on the map, but certainly not in the way his lord father had wanted.
In the last few months, the tumultuous situation between Lord Tomas and Alastair finally came to a head. In the hope that Alastair would get away with less than he did at Fairen in a more supervised setting, Lord Tomas had him sent to Lucre, to stay with Hilary.
Alastair is loathing every second of it.
Personality
If you have only just met the heir to House Fairen, you would be right to think of him as one of the most charming men you could meet. Many women living in the vicinity of House Fairen's estate can attest to this, and Alastair certainly knows how charasmatic he can be. Part of his charm is his ability to make people believe that he is interested in no one else but them, but in reality, the only thing he cares about when meeting someone new is how much pleasure he can get from their company, and how much this new aquaintance would annoy his family. True to form, those of Fairen are horrified by to Alastair's "friends".
Alastair may have been a quiet, kind boy once upon a time, eager to please with low self-esteem, given to petulant bouts of temper. What is certain that Alastair as a man grown is different to the boy he once was, for those bouts of temper come by more frequently, some say permanently, and his name has a byword for trouble. He is a smarmy, sarcastic, devil-may-care hedonist, living not for duty, or destiny, or Dragons forbid, his family, or by the standards set by the church, but for pleasure, no matter how unsavoury and against the values set by Megam society. The one thing that seems to have been a constant throughout his life, though he does a very good job hiding it and denying it to himself most of all, is the low self-esteem.
Suffice to say, Alastair gets along very poorly with his family. He has never forgiven them for their neglect of him when they thought him useless, takes every opportunity to show how little he cares for their opinions and particularly enjoys it when his father and his siblings make their frustration of him known. In his opinion, there is no more fitting legacy he can leave or gift he can give to his father than dragging House Fairen's name through the mud, and since he cares so little about his own standing, it is only a matter of time before he crashes and burns. The question is when, and how many people he plans to take along with him.
Appearance
Alastair is of average height and has a skinny frame. His hair, like his mother's, is dark and long enough to frame his large violet eyes. His face is thin and pointed, perhaps an effect of his lifestyle, and his expression is often that of a smirk or a smug grin. He likes to dress in fine clothing, and considers himself quite fetching in black.

himitsu_sensou RP, played by
megaera_inc. His PB is Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass, who definitely doesn't belong to me.
